To support and train its worldwide clientele, Airbus Industries has created three unique centers for flight, crew and maintenance training. One is in Toulouse, France, another in Beijing, China and the third is at the Miami International Airport and serves as its center for North and South American operations.
Pierce Architectural Group provided complete Architectural and Interior Design Services for this 102,000 square foot facility. Services also included site plan approval and construction administration. The project was completed from design to start-up within 18 months.
The building had to protect the expensive simulators and support equipment against hurricane damage and also appear inviting to pilots and crewmembers arriving for intensive training. A featured element of the design is the spacious lobby and orientation center. This area uses a combination of wood and aluminum panels to evoke a warm, friendly atmosphere and allude to the aircraft industry. Natural light, interior landscape and bright colors are introduced frequently into the interior. Other important components include: tele-conference center, large technical and research library with views of the Miami Airport, atrium café, gift shop, classrooms and administrative center.
