The West Pompano Highland Beach Community Center is 3,500 square foot multi-use structure located in a park in the West Highlands area of Pompano Beach. This unique structure nestles into an existing park to form the corner stone of community redevelopment in this area. This unique building is designed around a private butterfly garden area and passive, play area. The building shape actually mimics that of a butterfly. The building consists of an auditorium, classrooms, catering area, park administration office, display area and public restrooms. The butterfly garden in the rear of the building also includes an “art in public place” piece, and a shaded area for story-telling. The facility provides an anchor for daytime activities in the park, but is also fully usable at night for adult programs. The project is estimated to cost approximately $1 million and should be completed by the spring of 2005.
